As a risograph studio that specialises in printing photographs, we have encountered quite a lot of limitations and errors about the technique and printing process. While these misprints are usually ditched and recycled, there might be inspirations we can take and transform into new image making approaches.

Welcome to Risograph Playground, again, where printing errors are gold.

The sharing session will last approximately one and a half hours. The first part provides an introduction to the principles of risograph, especially on printing photographs. The second part focuses on how to utilise printing errors for creative purposes. Lastly, we will showcase our portfolio and share interesting insights throughout the years plus a Q&A session.

About the Facilator

The Memory Machine started as a personal exploration between images, low-tech printing, and book-making by Alex Lau. From 2018, he began printing photographs and making publications with a risograph duplicator. Throughout the years, he has been participating in local and international art book fairs. In 2021, he started his own creative studio to explore the potential of risograph in terms of a printing technique, as well as an artistic process. The studio also collaborates with artists and photographers, in co-creating artists‘ books and editioned prints. Some of the pieces have been exhibited globally in galleries and museums.
