From the Trump shooting coverage, to the passing of German image-maker Thomas Hoepker, to the photo of the Olympic surfer mid-air, numerous images and issues have surfaced recenty that are reigniting public discourse on photojournalism. In an age of information-overload, we are surrounded by news and media around said news; how should we read the symbols in them? From the perspective of a photojournalist, what are important considerations in documenting and reporting the news? What considerations drive post-production and editorial decision-making?
In this upcoming Photography Salon, photographer Billy Kwok and former photojournalist, editor and current university lecturer Eric Tsang discuss the processes of preparing for an assignment and making editorial decisions, as well as the varying presentations available in changing news mediums, from which they explore ways of engaging in visual storytelling.
