Introducing: J Davies

← Back

J DAVIES is multidisciplinary takataapui (Māori LGBTQIA+) artist primarily doing mahi (work) on stolen lands of The Kulin Nation in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia. Their ongoing archiving of contemporary queer existence in the city of Naarm cultivates connection to community and culture whilst considering themes of identity, intimacy and neurodiversity.

With a uniquely personal perspective, ‘Home (Away from Home)’ comprises analogue photographs archived between 2020–2023 that document the artist’s life behind closed doors. J invites their audience and collaborators to collectively contemplate the ways in which we view and value intimacy within our lives.

Nominated by Photo Australia, J Davies is a participant of the Satellite Exhibitions 2023, an exchange programme connecting young image makers from Hong Kong and the APAC region.

Their programme buddy is Masahiro Nakamura from Hong Kong.
