Contemporary Practice in Artists’ Photobooks

Artists’ photobooks establish sequences for artistic concepts that have been translated into print. It shares an inseparable relationship with Artists’ books that originated in the 60s. This talk by Vincent Tsai, founder of PAPER MATTER, will explore and contextualise the medium’s family tree to shine light on the role of photobooks within contemporary practice.

Speaker bio

Vincent TSAI is a researcher of art publications. A graduate of the Institute of Applied Arts of the National Chiao Tung University, he has completed a visiting scholar programme at the Academy of Arts & Design,Tsinghua University, in Beijing, and is currently pursuing a PhD at the Department of Fine Art of the Taipei National University of the Arts. Tsai established PAPER MATTER and the Artists’ Books Archive in Taipei in 2018. His current research and practice revolves around artists’ books and contemporary photobooks.
