Based in Vietnam, Vân-Nhi NGUYỄN is a photographic artist and designer, whose work explores the multidimensional narratives of relationships, sexuality and aesthetics through her own experience and the different communities she has lived in.
With the country’s legacy of colonial violence still casting a long shadow as Vietnam is thrust into globalisation, its heritage and people merit particular study and observation. ‘As You Grow Older’ draws upon aspects of vernacular photography and colonial images of Vietnam to look into the intersection of this palpating wound of Vietnamese society, as well as its people’s efforts to move on.
Nominated by Matca, Vân-Nhi Nguyễn is a participant of the Satellite Exhibitions 2023, an exchange programme connecting young image makers from Hong Kong and the APAC region.
Her programme buddy is Jeff Cheng Tsz Fung from Hong Kong.
