Introducing: Crystal Sim

Born in Singapore, Crystal SIM uses imagery and textiles to portray the intangibles of mental health. Her practice is primarily inspired by personal experience and process-led explorations.

Her upcoming work focuses on the process of healing through slowing down the image-making medium. She deconstructs images of significant meaning from her personal archive and then reconstructs them by filling each pixel with tactile materials. The recreated images are given new meanings, while the labour behind the work exercises the body with repetitive motion and slows down the mind, leaving room for new reflection.

Nominated by Objectifs, Crystal Sim is a participant of the Satellite Exhibitions 2023, an exchange programme connecting young image makers from Hong Kong and the APAC region.

Her programme buddy is Winsome Wong from Hong Kong.
