Artist Introduction: Kevin Ling

Kevin Ling Chung-wan  graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts (AVA), Hong Kong Baptist University in 2017. Ling was awarded the Tuna Prize at the AVA BA Graduation Exhibition 2017, and was shortlisted for the Hong Kong Human Right Prize in 2018 and 2021. In 2022, Ling remodelled his studio in Tai Kok Tsui into his first solo exhibition The self as time He is currently a member of the creative team of the charity Hass Lab.

 

 

Through urban observation and material exploration to explore a way to create mixed-media artwork. Curious about the traces of time, the connection of different materials, and the relationship between daily objects and people, Ling creates works in a wide range of mediums, including earth art, sculpture, video, print, community art, and installation.. His works have been exhibited in Germany, Finland, Australia, Japan, Thailand, and China, and published in Ming Pao Sunday Life.

 

 

“Wash Out”

 

 

As time passes, ink is slowly left on the floor, and I wash the floor with water to reveal wash away the white space—the void.

The old land and its the accumulated stains, form a huge inked paper under my feet. I draw some circles on the ground:, these void lines piece of white space are not intentionally left out, like a painter; revealed by my washing; left out, they are washed out, revealing the ground below.
