Yip Kin Bon (b. 1989, Hong Kong), a mixed media artist, graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts of the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2013. His works feature a variety of approaches that include collecting, reading, sorting and integrating, which are often presented in forms of collage. He rearranges the context of incidents, objects and time to reflect the absurdity of this world.
Yip hosted a solo exhibition in WMA space,“ Overidding the Light of Day ” in 2023 . “ Almost black, the white terror; Almost white, the black humour”, in 2014. He has since taken part in various exhibitions including: “Sea Breeze – Jogja Biennale 2019’ in Indonesia, ‘No Cause For Alarm ” in La MaMa Galleria, New York (2016) and “ The City of Homeless ” in Arko Art Center, Seoul. His artwork is among the collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, USA, as well as private individuals in Hong Kong.
The microphone and the mask exist in a space between allowance and constraint-tied to both expression and concealment, where voice and breath become tentative, unsettled. Overlapped in the image, they echo the “forced perspective” kiss in cinema: seeming intimate, yet marked by absence and misalignment, inviting the viewer into a carefully arranged distance.
