Fee|$50 (Reservation fee, refundable at the end of workshop)

Phoboko aims to show a variety of photobook expressions on the vast topic of ‘Ecology.’ We pooled books from a diversity of backgrounds, continents, genders, and ages, ranging from exploring the changing landscapes of farming with government policies, the aftermath and effects of ecological catastrophes and disasters, to the beauty of botanic classifications and photographic processing, and the landscapes of nature concerning specific community and cultures.

At this sharing as Phoboko’s #34 photobook club session, we will dive deep into a curated set of photobooks currently showcased at the centre’s Photobook Corner, discussing the evolving relationship between human and non-human ecologies. We encourage participants to explore the connection between ecology and community by walking around the village and enjoying Chuen Lung tea before and after the discussion.

About Phoboko

Phoboko is a platform that brings people together through photobooks and the topics they contain. Through regular meetings, photobooks are used as “social objects” for dialogues and knowledge exchange between participants. Group discussion ranged from how creators convey their concepts using photography and materialising them into photobook form, to exploring the culture, society, and history that the photobooks make visible. As a community, Phoboko interrogates photography as a medium, promoting the vision of local Hong Kong artists while in dialogue with other photographers in the Asia-Pacific region.

*Hong Kong Photographic Culture Association is financially supported by the HKADC
