Gruppetto is an ornament in music.
The beat of gruppetto does not have any rules but conventions, thus making it a highly challenging but very touching technique to play.
The indigenous inhabitants of Chuen Lung journeyed from Lung Chuen County in Guangdong around six hundred years ago to settle in this once barren land, in the heart of Hong Kong’s highest mountain, Tai Mo Shan. From humble beginnings, the village has prospered, with its legacy passed down through generations. This history echoes with the spirit of gruppetto: a celebration of community where there are no strict rules, only cherished conventions.
This exhibition showcases photos contributed by the villagers, demonstrating their passion for life. As a whole, they reveal a deep connection and unintentionally emanate the musical quality of a gruppetto, an improvised trill on a note or theme.
