Chuen Lung is situated on the hillside of Tai Mo Shan and has abundant water supply, which is suitable for growing local watercress. Since only a small number of villagers are still growing it, it is in danger of being lost. The scarcity of paddy fields in Hong Kong has made them a habitat for dragonflies and amphibians, while the fields and streams attract birds and insects, as well as the yellow coster butterfly, which is rare in Hong Kong. Chuen Lung is like a gateway to ecology and should not be missed by those who love eco-photography.
The workshop is hosted by professional eco-photography instructor Patrick Ho, participants will start their journey through the ecological gateway of Chuen Lung. During the class, the instructor will share his own works, shooting techniques and tips, and prepare props and illustrations to make the learning process more lively and interesting. The course covers the use of various photographic equipment, including insects, birds and aquatic organisms, as well as ‘camera trap’ infrared photography and the application of iNaturalist, a biological database. Finally, students’ works will be collected, displayed and discussed to experience the fun of photography.
The instructor said, “I know that there are some pleasures that don’t cost a lot of money, such as the simple pleasure of seeing nature. I will endeavour to make everyone fall in love with nature, take beautiful photos and have a good time together.”
