All That is Solid Melts into Images was invited by the Nanbo (Dali) International Photography Festival, Hong Kong International Photography Festival brought together works by sixteen Hong Kong artists, the exhibition examines how images permeate everyday life and shape imaginaries of the future within a global city structured by information flows, financial logics, and image production. In Hong Kong, images do not merely depict reality; they participate in the formation of value and the construction of the real. The future is often conceived, rehearsed, and circulated first as image.

The exhibition spans analogue photography, collage, infrared imaging, moving image, virtual reality (VR), and AI-generated images. Through strategies of cropping, layering, and reproduction, the artists foreground the conditions under which images are produced and circulated. From drone perspectives to reflections on dreams and notions of “home,” the works reconsider the relationships between the city, memory, and perception.

As images increasingly form the basis through which we understand the world and imagine what lies ahead, when all that seems solid can be rendered as image, how might we locate ourselves within it?
