Photographer Incubator Exhibitions

The Photographer Incubator fosters new creative forces in photography. Under the mentorship of forerunners of photography Leong Ka Tai, Alfred Ko Chi Keung, Lau Ching Ping, and Wing Shya and guests mentors from abroad, the ten rising image makers have been enhancing, expanding and elevating their artistic practice since September 2019.

HKIPF also invited a diverse range of experienced creative practitioners from Japan, Canada, Taiwan and Hong Kong to take part as guest mentors, including photography critic lizawa Kotaro; founder of Case Publishing Onishi Hiroshi; visual practitioner Lee Ka Sing; founder of Lightbox Photo Library Tsao Liang-pin; poet Lau Yee Ching; sound artist Steve Hui; singer-songwriter Wang Yu-jun, and exhibition designer Chen Mao-chang. They have introduced the participants to different visions, cultural perspectives and artistic media; deepening their grasp of the diversity of art practices, and fostering their growth in their creative journeys.

After an almost year-long process of collision and convergence, the 10 mentees are now thrilled to showcase their extensive investigations and experimentations to the public as Satellite Exhibitions across various districts in Hong Kong.

We will see everyday glimpses, familial memories, identity reflections, political movement, and memories of the city as captured through the lens. Apart from photographic prints, the works are presented in a variety of formats including multimedia performance, outdoor showcase, mixed media work, object display, and street poster-inspired art.

The Photographer Incubator project celebrates youth, exploration and the future.
